Cairo has more secondhand clothing than most people realise. The difficulty is knowing which corner of it to look in, because the options work differently and suit different kinds of shopping.

Someone has already done the sorting. Prices are higher than the market for that reason and the selection is smaller, but you can see the piece, feel the fabric and try it on before you decide.

Facebook resale groups

Free, enormous, and organised by nothing in particular. You will find almost anything if you scroll long enough, and you arrange the meeting, the payment and the trust yourself.

Best for local pickups, and for pieces too bulky to be worth delivering.

Instagram sellers

Curated feeds, often built around one style or one era. You buy by message, which is quick when the seller replies and slow when they do not. How far you can trust the description depends entirely on who is selling.

Best for following a seller whose taste matches yours.

Resale apps

The difference here is search. You can filter by brand, size and price instead of scrolling, and delivery and payment are handled for you rather than agreed in a chat.

What to check before you buy
